Barter Down Our Lives

This upcoming move is already giving me a headache.  We need to reduce our stuff by quite a bit so we can easily fit into a smaller place.  We decided to have a garage sale next weekend and the list of things to do is never ending.  First we need to figure out what to sell.  If it were up to me I would liquidize 50% of our things just to make it lighter.  I somehow have to collect stuff from all over the house, clean it, price it and set it up in our garage.  I don’t imagine we’ll make much money as we don’t have anything of great value going into the sale.  If it saves me a few hours of unpacking and creative storage later on though it will be worth it.  I wonder if I could simply put everything in a pile and charge $5 a ticket for people to battle it out for whatever they can grab.  I think I could make more money through sponsors of such an event than I could make actually selling things.  I am a salesman by nature but the constant bartering that accompanies garage sales gets old quickly.  “No, I’m not selling that item marked $10 for 50 cents.”
